Diamond Diary

Today’s poem attempt courtesy Writing 201.

Prompt: DRAWER – Containing an object regarded as a forgotten treasure.

Form: ODE – A laudatory poem celebrating a person, object, place etc

Device: APOSTROPHE – Occurs when a poem addresses another person or an object directly.

Below is my own interpretation of the assignment. I am not a poet, but it is fun to do.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………….

My little black book, yet white on the inside

Pink around the borders, rainbow colors endowed

Skin coated in velvet, as soft as can be

You’ve kept my girlish secrets, you’ve held my tiny thoughts

You’ve shaped my youthful dreams, every fantasy in your trust

Every achievement, on point with you

Even the failures and disappointments too

All these memories you keep for me

A girl’s best friend you were indeed

And your BFF sticker to show for it

A woman’s diamond friend you are also

A DFF sticker ready to stick

Time up, no more hide and seek

This old drawer is too dusty to breathe

Your new honorary sticker awaits.
